Description:Tank is a Courtesy Listing. As such, Buster Cannot attest to or vouch for the temperament or health of the dog.
Following is a bio as prepared by his current owner:
Tank is a young, strong dog who is best suited for a home without small dogs or "prey-like" animals (eg: cats). He would benefit from obedience classes, as well as an experienced owner who can work with him and give him a lot of exercise.
He has two dogs he plays with that he's really good with. One of them being a 90 lbs. American bull dog and the other being a 30 lbs. beagle (the one he's cuddling with in the picture). Both dogs are also males like Tank. The reason I don't think he would do well with little dogs is because he doesn't know his own strength and he LOOOVEEESS to rough house with dogs, but again he's not being aggressive, so therefore a little dog may get hurt. He absolutely cannot be in a home with cats -he recently got loose and killed a neighborhood cat.
Good Qualities about Tank:
1. Raised with a baby and absolutely great with him
2. Very sweet and cuddly
3. Well mannered in the house. We don't put him in his crate anymore when we leave because he doesn't get into things and chew them up. His only weakness is hangers, but that's because my inlaws used to stupidly give them to him to chew on, so he thinks he can chew those, but he doesn't swallow stuff, and he hasn't really chewed one in a very long time.
4. He likes to greet people at the door with a shoe in his mouth, which is very sweet, plus he never chews up the shoe.
5. Housebroken and neutered
6. Knows the commands: sit, stay, rollover, stand, dance, crawl, and give me paw....he also knows when we say "Where's your bear?" that means any of his toys, so he'll go and get them so we can all play
7. For the most part, when he's indoor, he's a pretty lazy dog, other than random spurts of energy in the evening, where he'll run back and forth or chase his tail, but that's typical dog behaviour.
8. He's great on a leash as long as he doesn't see other animals up close, because then if its a dog he wants to play and if it's cats or small creatures he wants to go after it.
Tank's Bad Qualities:
1. His drive for cats and small creatures. If you are on a walk and not strong enough to control him (which I am not, but my husband is) he will most certainly pull you over to get to a cat or squirrel.
2. He has skin allergies. We've figured out that he's mostly allergic to several kinds of food, especially beef products. He wouldn't be a dog that you give leftovers too, or even treats. The only thing we allow him to have are animal crackers (sometimes with peanut butter), otherwise he turns into a big itch. It's not really a huge problem, other than he's just itchy when he has things he shouldn't. We've taken him to the vet several times to make sure it wasn't anything like mites, and it's not, he's just sensitive (which is common with his breed).
3. His strength--very hard for a smaller person to control
4. Sometimes, rarely now, he jumps to give people kisses in their face when he's first meeting them. It takes him a while to just sit and be calm when people come over. He wants to be right with them and basically sit on them when they're on my couch. Some people don't mind that quality though.
5. I do want people to know that if he goes to a new home he will be very hyper at first. When he goes into a new home he's in a big hurry to run around and check everything out, especially if there is another dog there. He will be a bit crazy at first, but he definately calms down once he's acquainted.
If you are interested in adopting Tank, please read our adoption policy and complete an application. These are found on this website, under the tab “Animals”, then “Adoption Info”, or under "Information" and "Forms".
Too often we have had people set up appointments for a meet and greet only to be no-shows. All our dogs are in foster homes, and we at Buster appreciate that our foster families' and volunteers' time is precious. Therefore we will not set up meet and greets without first receiving a completed application.
We trust you understand and respect our decision to enforce this policy.
